Abstract
369,327. Conditioning tobacco. TROTTER, J. F. A., Broom Cottage, Angmering-on-Sea. Jan. 30, 1931, Nos. 3097 and 19332. [Class 130.] A container 11 for conditioning tobacco, cigars, cigarettes, &c. is provided with a compartment containing an absorbent pad 16 formed by soaking asbestos in a liquor obtained by exposing calcium chloride or other deliquescent substance to the atmosphere until completely deliquesced, mounting the sheet in a shallow metal tray 17, and baking. As shown, the lid 12 of the box 11 is fitted with a frame 13 in which the pad 16 is housed. The pad may be retained in the tray 17 by metal crossmembers 18 and the tray is held by pivoted catches 19. The pad may alternatively be formed in sections, the junctions between which are covered by the members 18. A perforated cover 14 is hinged to the frame 13 and may be provided with a correspondingly perforated sliding shutter 24 for adjusting the effective size of the perforations in the cover. For preventing any of the material of the pad from falling into the box 11, the cover 14 or the shutter 24 may be covered with or partly constituted by wire gauze and similar material may cover the pad. The moisture content of the box may be indicated by discs 27, 28 treated with cobalt chloride.
