Abstract
368,894. Vehicle brakes. MASON, H. E. and MASON, S. H., 68, Queen's Road, Peckham, London. Jan. 5, 1931, No._348. [Class 103 (i).] A braking arrangement for an automobile having a laterally floating axle especially the trailing axle of a six-wheeled vehicle comprises brake drums carried by and movable laterally with the axle, the braking surfaces being of such a width that they always extend across the full width of the brake shoes. The axle 4 is laterally slidable in brackets 7 this movement being limited by shoulders 19. The brackets 7, in which the vehicle springs 8 are secured carry the brake shoes 12 on a brake shield 10. The wide brake drums 18 are secured to the hubs 16 of the wheels 17, which rotate on bearings 14 on the axle 4 and are fixed to the inner axle 1. The axle 1 comprises two parts having headed inner ends 2 rotatable in a correspondingly shaped two part differential coupling member 3 secured to the axle 4 by a bolt 5. This arrangement allows differential rotary movement of the two parts of the axle.
