Abstract

<PICT:0367890/III/1> Apparatus for making emulsions comprises two discs a, b, detachably secured together as by a central screwed boss c and clamping between them one or a number of annular metal screens f<1>, f<2>, f<3>, having perforations h<1>, h<2>, h<3> and secured in grooves g<1>, g<2>, g<3> in the disc b. The discs are rotated at high speed and the materials to be emulsified are fed in through a hollow cone d and enter the space between the discs by apertures e. Emulsification takes place in passing through the screens f<1>, f<2>, f<3>, the apertures in which may be covere with wire gauze if desired. Radial vanes are provided, in the central space and between the screens, to ensure the displacement of the materials. In a modification the screens may be eccentrically mounted or made of rectangular, oval or corrugated contour.
