Abstract

330,314. Harrison, H. A. March 12, 1929. Emulsions, making.-An emulsifier, mixer, &c. comprises a container in which is arranged a cylinder fitted with a plunger and having a plug at one or both ends provided with a number of concentric grooves connected with one another by fine radial passages. As shown, the plug h fits in the bottom of the cylinder b and has a central opening h<2> into which the fine perforations h<1> lead; the perforations may be radial and the under surface of the plug provided with fine scratches forming a liquid seal, or the perforations may be replaced by grooves on its lower surface. The cylinder is provided with openings c<1>, and the plunger may be ribbed as shown at c<2>. The grooves and perforations may be formed in a flange attached to the outside of the base of the cylinder, which in this case is closed by a plate, or by the bottom of the container. In another form, two cylinders are provided arranged one above the other, each having a plug. The plug may have circumferential grooves connected by fine axial passages.
