Abstract

367,632. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO., Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A. April 27, 1931, No. 12351. Convention date, Aug. 30, 1930. [Class 112.] Work guides.-A pair of work guiding devices are so mounted on a sewing machine that when one is moved into operative position from one side of the line of seam formation the other is moved into operative position at the opposite side of the line of seam formation, and vice versa. As shown, a strip folder 57 for preparing folded belt-loop strips and an edge folder 50 for preparing belt-loop strips substantially wider than those prepared by the folder 57 are mounted on an attachment plate 41 secured upon the cloth plate of the machine and operatively connected at the opposite ends of a bar 43 slidable, to bring either folder into operative position, in guides 42. The folder 57 forms a complete loop strip in one passage through the machine, whereas, in the case of wider loop strips, with the folder 50 one edge at a time is folded, the work being reversed and passed through the machine a second time. The edge folder 50 comprises an apron and scroll 51 and is adjustably mounted on the bar43 to the left on the line of seam formation and is disposed, when in operative position, with the scroll 51 directly in front of the presser foot 8. The strip folder 5 comprises a channelshaped member with upturned guide lips 58 at its work receiving end merging into confining wings 59 leading to a guide tube 60 at the delivery end of the device. A rectangular spacing block 61 is inserted in the outer end of the channel and terminates in a spring tongue 62 at the delivery end freely suspended in the tube 60 and supported on a rib 63 rising from the bottom of the tube. The folder 57 is adjustably mounted on a bracket plate 53 pivoted to an ear 52 on the plate 41 and having a cam slot 67 engaged by a pin 66 on a plate 65 secured to the slide bar 43. Guide fins 19, 20 are spring-pressed to slide in grooves 18 in a foot-plate 9 having a needle aperture 17 and which is pivotally secured to the shank 8 of the presser foot, and one or both of these fins may be raised and lowered into operative position when the folder 57 is operative.
