Abstract

367,596. Delivering envelopes, paper bags, &c. from machines. WINKLER, A., 30, Seminarstrasse, and DœNNEBIER, M., 46, Engerser Landstrasse, both in Neuwied, Germany. March 18, 1931, No. 8367. Convention date, April 22, 1930. [Class 100 (i).] Envelopes, paper bags, or other flat articles of paper or similar material delivered from a machine to a stacking-device are engaged, during delivery, by a guide 13 which causes the trailing edge of each article to be bent away from the stack 20 when its leading edge is in stacking position so that when the guide is moved away the trailing edge springs into stacking position due to the tension produced by the bending. Rollers 1, 21 deliver the article from the machine and have oscillating pushermembers 40 pivoted thereon which are projected by cam-and-lever devices to engage the rear edge of the article as it leaves the rollers 1, 21 so as to effect the final movement of the article into the stack. The guide 13 has a curved edge 14 concentric with the roller 1 to bend the trailing edge of the article away from the stack and is formed with a hooked end 15 which engages the edge of the stack so as to allow the article to slide into position between the stack and a fixed plate 36. When the leading edge of the article has reached the stacker-table 22 the members 40 are retracted and the guide 13 moved upwardly by levers 17, 19 operated from a cam on the shaft 12 of the roller 1, so that the article springs into stacking position. The guide 13 is then lowered so that the hook 15 engages behind the last delivered article. Simultaneously with the lowering of the guide 13, pressure members 5 fixed to and adjustable circumferentially of the roller 1 engage the stack and push it back slightly for the succeeding article to enter. The articles are stacked on a slowly-moving endless belt, the supporting pulleys 24, 29 of which have shafts 23, 24 journalled in the ends of the table 22. In order that the top of the stack may be kept at the same height relatively to the delivery devices, the table 22 is pivoted at one end 23 and the other end is carried by arms 30 fixed to a shaft 32 adjustable by a hand-wheel 31. The number of articles delivered may be indicated by the displacement of one of the articles transversely of the stack at definite intervals.
