[Class 61 (iii).] The substantially semicircular jaws of a tube extractor are freely separable and are moved radially by a wedge drawn up by a central rod, the jaws and tool body having interengaging shoulders. Jaws 5, Fig. 1, carry shoulders 6, 12 engaging respectively in a recess 3 in the body 1 of the tool, and beneath the tube end 13, and are expanded by a wedge 9 on a rod 8 upon rotation of a nut 10. The withdrawal is effected by rotation of a nut 18 engaging a screw-thread on the body 1, and bearing on a bridge member 16, 17 resting on the tube plate 14. In a modification, Fig. 3, the jaws 5, Fig. 6, carry a T-head 22, 23 engaging the head 19, Fig. 5, of the body 1. The withdrawal is effected by upward movement of a block 33 bearing on a nut 18, and actuated by rotation of a bolt 34 through levers 29, 30 pivoted to the block 33 and to pedestals 27 bearing on a plate 25 and movable thereon. The levers 29, 30 may bear directly on the plate 25. For extracting tubes which lie inclined to the plate, adjustable legs may be carried on the bridge member, and means such as projections engaging other tube holes may prevent slipping of the bridge. According to the Provisional Specification the nut 10 may be replaced by a knurled nut and spring washer, and springs acting between the body of the tool and the jaws, or between the jaws, may replace the wedge actuating member.
