Abstract

366,664. Ball bearings. DAVIES, N. A., 11, The Oakway, Radlett, Hertfordshire, and REVVO CASTOR CO., Ltd., 19, Brook Green Road, Hammersmith, London. Dec. 19, 1930, No. 38272. [Class 12 (i).] In making a ball-bearing castor of the kind in which the bodywork is of sheet metal, the ball race of one member is made complete, and that of the other member is formed one - half before assembly, and the other half, after assembly, by bending, flanging, or spinning the metal over the balls. The castor shown is made from two blanks, together with a wheel c and axle c<1>. The swivelling-member b is formed from a blank with a central circular bodv and two horn-like side pieces. It is pressed or stamped to a U-shaped form, shown in Fig. 4, the end part b<7> is punched out, and the ball race b<1>, Fig. 1, is spun or pressed out of the inclined parts b<2>. The castor fixing-member a is made from a circular blank with a central aperture a<1>. This is stamped to a saucer-like form, which is placed upon the swivelling member with the balls in position. The flange is then spun. over to complete the ball race. Specification 247,654, [Class 12 (i), Bearings &c.], is referred to.
