Abstract
366,636. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, and TRUESDALE, R., of Dunlop Rubber Co., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham. Nov. 28, 1930, No. 35793. [Class 144 (ii).] The fabric content of a cover, or part thereof, for example the breaker strip, is preserved in a non-tensioned condition throughout the manufacture of the cover by positive means which are designed to withstand the stresses occasioned during the manufacture, but to disrupt when the cover is put into service, so allowing the fabric to assume its normal state of tension in service. As shown, the fabric content incorporates a composite cord comprising a strand 13 wound helically around a weaker stand 14. When the cover is, taken into service, the strand 14 breaks, allowing the strand 13 to become tensioned. In a modification, the strands are incorporated separately in the fabric, the strand 13 being left slack. In another modification, a normal woven fabric is crimped and associated with a number of supplementary threads under tension.
