Abstract

766,509. Pneumatic tyres. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Feb. 7,1955 [Sept. 15, 1954], No. 3535/55. Class 144 (2). To reduce leakage of air from a tubeless tyre along the interstices between the filaments 30 of the multifilament cord reinforcing plies 18-21, flipper strips 22 and bead chafers 23, the flipper strips 22 and/or the bead chafers 23 are impregnated with a cord to rubber bonding agent to fill the said interstices so that the flipper strips and/or chafers have a lower air diffusion rate than the reinforcing plies 18-21. The impregnation may be effected by dipping the fabric of the strips or chafers into a solution or dispersion of the impregnant one or more times in a relaxed state and subsequently tensioning the filler and warp of the fabric. The impregnant may comprise mixtures of rubber latex with protein and/or a soluble aldehyde resin.
