Abstract

365,824. Floor-cleaning machines. GUINAND, P., Wolfhalden, Switzerland. Feb. 11, 1931, No. 4217. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1930. [Class 138 (i).] A floor-cleaning machine comprises an electric motor 3, Fig. 1, the vertical shaft 11 of which is secured to one or more horizontal shafts 12 each of which carries rotatably-mounted brushes 19 adapted when the motor operates to be rotated by engagement with the floor. The motor is adjustable by means of a screw-threaded, spindle 6 engaging a bracket 4: which is adapted to slide in a guide 5. The shaft 12 is mounted on ball bearings on a ring 14 secured to the motor shaft 11, and is capable of limited rocking movement. The base of the machine is provided with bundles of bristles 22 adapted to support the machine. Two receptacles 24 (of which only one is shown) contain polishing wax or cleaning liquid, the supply of which is controlled by means of a screw-threaded spindle 28. The side wall of the machine may be formed with an opening 31 closed by a detachable hood which may be connected to vacuum apparatus. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the motor shaft has mounted thereon a slidable sleeve 41 with a key 43 engaging a groove 42 in the shaft 40. The sleeve is formed with extensions 44 adapted to receive bolts 45 carrying brushes 53, the bolts being secured by pins 48. The brushes are pressed against the floor by the action of a spring 54. To prevent the sleeve 41 with the brushes from being detached when the machine is lifted, a stop is provided on the end of the motor shaft, comprising a pair of levers 56 pivotally mounted on a pin 55 and pressed outwardly by a spring 57 so that the rods 58 prevent detachment of the sleeve 41. To remove the sleeve the ends 58 are pressed inwardly the spring 54 thrusting out the sleeve. A fan 86 may be provided for conveyng dust to a receptacle (not shown). A receptacle for polishing wax may also be provided with means for heating the wax or otherwise facilitating its discharge.
