Floors, cleaning.-A waxing and polishing machine comprises apparatus for spreading wax, a fan for blowing air upon this wax to dry it, and polishers driven by an electric motor, the polishers being spring-pressed upon the floor so as to polish uneven portions. The casing 2 of the machine is supported on castors 19 and carries the motor 1 which drives the fan 3 and pulley 4, thus rotating three pulleys 6 by means of the belt 5. Thrust bearings 9 are provided at the upper ends of the shafts 8 fixed to the pulleys 6, and the lower ends are made elliptical as shown at 43 to fit in elliptical holes 14 in the backs of the polishers 7 so that vertical movement of the polishers is allowed, springs 15 keeping them pressed upon the floor. The waking- apparatus comprises a box 25 adapted to be filled with wax, which is forced out through the open bottom by a spring-pressed plate 26, the cover 36 being displaced as at 41 during use. Pressure is put upon the wax as required by turning the nut 28 on a stem 27 fixed to the plate 26, so as to allow the spring 29 to come into action. A scraper 31 levels the wax and the air blast dries it so that the floor may be polished immediately by the rotating polishers and finished off by a soft pad 20 extending around the casing 2. The machine is guided by a pivoted handle 23, and may be used for polishing alone by releasing the fixing-nut 33 of the waxing-apparatus and moving this up clear of the floor, for which allowance is made by means of a slot 34.
