Abstract
365,743. Hair waving and curling appliances. FRASER, H. C. and FRASER, M. A., 108, Lowther Road, Bournemouth, Hampshire. Dec. 20, 1930, No. 38442. [Class 131.] In a hair waving and curling device of the kind comprising a shank of rubber or the like having an eye or equivalent at one end through which the other end is adapted to be pushed after flexing the shank, the shank is provided with a head formed integral therewith or attached thereto and extending in a direction normal or oblique to the plane of the shank, so as to prevent hair coiled adjacent thereto from slipping off the shank during the coiling and before the ends of the shank are interengaged. As shown in the Figure, the shank 2 is provided at one end with an integral head 1 projecting at right-angles and having an aperture 4 through which the other end 3' of the shank is adapted to be pushed. To prevent the end 3 of the shank from being accidentally disengaged from the aperture 4, it may be provided with an enlargement 6 at or adjacent the end thereof, which enlargement may be provided with an aperture in order that it may be easily contracted. The inner wall of the head 1 may be notched or serrated to facilitate expansion. In a modification, the head comprises a ring, half ring or loop held in recesses formed in an enlargement at the end of the shank. The eye may be furnished with an eyelet and may be formed in the shank adjacent the head instead of in the head itself. The shank may be provided with a slot 5 in order that it may be used as a curler as well as a waver.
