Abstract

365,556. Mine props. BALL, P. A., 55, Sebastopol, Hoyland, near Barnsley. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 28364. [Class 20 (ii).] A pit prop comprises a rigid standard 11 formed cone-shaped at its upper end and provided with grooves 14, and a cylindrical chamber 13 adapted to receive a plunger 17 to rest upon sand contained within the chamber. A spring-pressed conical seating valve 15 controls the grooves 14 through which the sand can escape to allow collapse of the prop. Notches 24 in the plunger and spring-pressed pawls 25 in the chamber coact to prevent separation of the plunger from the prop. A rotatable cam 18 may be provided at the upper end of the plunger to set the prop.
