Abstract

365,261. Cleaning drain pipes. MILLER, J. C., 3336, Southport Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. Dec. 8, 1930, No. 36920. [Class 99 (ii).] A device for cleaning drain pipes comprises a long flexible rod or coil of wire 10 of relatively small diameter having at one end an enlarged oval-shaped coiled head 11 the adjacent turns of which are normally substantially in contact. The outer end of the head is preferably provided with a hook 13, and a brush 12 may be fitted on the rod adjacent said head. The rod is preferably provided with an external guiding tube 17 and an extension 21 in the form of a twisted rod ; the latter passes through a square opening in the upper end of the tube 17 or in a handle 23 secured thereto so that when it is forced into or out of the said tube it will rotate and cause the rod to be rotated. For use with flushing bowls the lower end of the tube 17 is formed with a rubber-covered bend 18 to hook on to a portion 19 of the bowl, and the tube is secured in this position by a cam lever 37 mounted on the tube and adapted to be pressed against a plate 35 disposed upon the top of the bowl.
