Abstract

365,197. Well-casing spears. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Acme Fishing Tool Co. ; Parkersburg, West Virginia, U.S.A.) Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31551. [Class 85.] A fishing spear for pulling casing from a well com. prises a body 3 with a wedge portion supporting wedge slips 7 and threaded to a head 1 with a bell portion 6 intc which reduced upper parts 11 of the slips extend. Members 8 separ. ate the slips which have teeth 9, 10 in two direc. tions whereby the slips are prevented from rotating in the well casing after engaging the latter. Reduced lower r extensions 12 on the slips enter a cupped retainer 14 supported on ball bearings 19 on a flange 17 of a trip sleeve 18 held to the retainer by a threaded ring 16. The trip sleeve 18 is connected to the body 3 by a pin 20 and L-slot 22. Around the trip sleeve is a spring assembly comprising rings 23, 24, connected by strip springs 26 adapted to engage the inner wall of the well casing, the rings 23, 24 being adjustable to and from each other by screws 25 to vary the effect of the spring. A cone 27 guides the tool into the casing and a flushing passage 28 passes through the tool. In use, the springs 26 are adjusted to support the tool which is inserted in the casing with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1. On reaching the required location, the body is turned and lifted to move the pin 20 up the slot 22, the wedge part of the body then spreading the slips into engagement with the casing.
