Abstract

364,777. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London, -(Assignees of Braden, R. A. ; 18, Jacobus Place, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 3, 1930, No. 36515. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1929. [Class 40 (v).] In a tuned band-pass coupling, the coefficient of magnetic coupling between two tuned circuits is automatically varied from a maximum at low frequencies to a minimum at high frequencies by means of an element in which currents are induced in opposition to those creating the normal coupling flux. As shown in Fig. 1, the position of a ring-element 5 of aluminium, silver, copper, or other .lowresistance metal relatively to the coupling coils 2, 3 determines the effective magnetic coupling between the circuits 1, 2 and 3, 4. In Fig. 3, the ring 5 is split, and the two ends connected to a condenser 10, forming an absorption circuit in which the induced currents act in opposition to the normal coupling-flux. In Fig. 4 this arrangement is utilized at 51, 101 to maintain a constant band-width between coupling-circuits 14, 15, 16 and 18, 19, 20 of the band-pass type. It is also utilized at 5, 10 to provide a closer coupling between the aerial and the first amplifier stage at low frequencies than at high, in order to make the receiver equally sensitive throughout a wide frequency range. Ganged tuning-control may be used.
