364,649. Depositing measured quantities of plastic substances. PATERSON, J. C., BAKER, G. R., BAKER PERKINS, Ltd., Willesden Works, Hythe Road, Willesden, London, and ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS A. SAVY JEANJEAN ET CIE, Avenue Dubonnet, Courbevoie, Seine, France. Sept. 3, 1930, No. 26312. [Class 87 (ii).] Liquid chocolate or other semiliquid or plastic substances are deposited in measured quantities by a continuously driven rotary feed pump, means being provided to obtain an intermittent delivery of the material. The pump comprises toothed drums 3 which may be driven through a variable speed gear 5 and epicyclic gear 6, the casing of the epicyclic gear being oscillated by a cam 12 acting through linkage 15, 16, 17 to slow down or arrest the pump drums at the depositing periods. A series of cams may be provided, the lever 15 being movable laterally to engage any selected cam, and a sliding block gear 18 is fitted so that the phase and duration of the depositing intervals may be varied. The pump nozzles 19 may be oscillated through cam-driven linkage 20.. 23 and an adjustable stop 27 may be fitted to actuate a valve lever 28 to shut off the nozzle in its extreme position. In a modification the pump has a fixed nozzle and drums driven at a constant speed, a camdriven plunger 7c being oscillated. in a chamber of the pump to absorb the pump discharge during non-depositing intervals.
