Abstract

364,466. Waterproofing. RYDEBERG, E. T., Liljeholmen, Sweden. April 14, 1931, No. 11034. [Classes 76 and 140.] Fibrous substances such as leather and cardboard are rendered impermeable to fluids by forming within the substances a factice by impregnating them with a mixture of vulcanizable oils such as boiled linseed oil and sulphur monochloride, the quantity of the latter being insufficient for complete vulcanization, and afterwards subjecting the substances to the action of a further quantity of sulphur monochloride to complete the vulcanization. The oil mixture and the sulphur monochloride are preferably diluted with benzine or benzol and the hydrochloric acid formed during the process is neutralized by washing the product with soda solution.
