363,287. Physiotherapeutic appliances; electromagnets. KRAUER, J. I., 5A, New Burlington Street, London. June 5, 1931, No. 16425. [Class 81 (ii).] Apparatus for treating with magnetism persons lying in bed or reclining on easy chairs, divans, &c., comprises a member adapted to lie across the bed with attached electromagnetic polepieces adapted to lie alongside the bed. In one form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 soft iron polepieces 6 and connecting- rod 5 are positioned in steel tubes 3 and case 1, the apparatus being designed to lie on the bed. An iron or steel lath 8 connecting the polepieces is preferably provided below the shoulders of the user. A magnetized needle may be pivoted in case 14 to indicate when a magnetic field is produced. The polepieces may be bifurcated. The coils 15 are preferably connected in series with a resistance, which may also serve as a heating means. This resistance may comprise a winding 16 situated on rod 5 or at a distance, or may be replaced by, or used in conjunction with, a lamp 38, Fig. 4, whereby the user may be subjected to light or other rays. In this modification, the device is supported by a stand 22. The lath 8 may be situated for instance between the mattress and overlay, or overlay and under-sheet.
