Abstract

In the froth flotation concentration of oxidized copper ores or mixed oxidized and sulphide copper ores a cyanide of an alkali or alkaline-earth metal, ammonium cyanide, or hydrocyanic acid is added, either by grinding with the ore or by adding to the pulp in p the flotation cell. The flotation may be carried out in stages, the quantity of cyanide added in the first stage being relatively small, and in the case of mixed sulphide and oxidized ores a preliminary flotation without cyanide may be carried out to remove the sulphides. After floating the oxidized copper a final flotation without the addition of cyanide may be performed to recover the residual copper. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of simple or complex metal cyanides in general, organic derivatives of hydrocyanic acid containing the cyanide radical and mixed cyanides containing both organic and metallic radicals.
