Abstract
362,708. Drying stockings &c. BERGER, E. J., Hatfield, MATTHEWS, H. W., 609, Derstene Avenue, Lansdale, and BOCK, W., Gwynedd, all in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Dec. 30, 1930, No. 39199. [Class 34 (ii).] Knitted goods such as hosiery are dried on open frames which are moved through the drying chamber on an endless chain conveyer, the articles being held in tension by the weight of a member sliding in each frame and to which each article is secured. A weight 3 slides in the lower members of a frame or form 1 on to which a stocking, for example, is fitted. The open end of the stocking is clamped round the weight by perforated gripper plates 5 supported on jaws 4 held apart, when the weight is raised, by a spring 11. A lever 8 having fingers 9, 10 closes the jaws against the weight 3. These forms are mounted on an endless chain 24, and passed first through a section 27 in which they are treated with steam, or ammonia, or other vapour, from a perforated pipe 31, after which they enter a drying section 28 supplied by a fan 32 with air heated by coils 33. The articles are then conditioned in section 29, and the former pass out and into proximity with a stop 40 and cam surface 37 which raises the weights 3 and releases the jaws 4, so that fresh articles may be fitted.
