Abstract

An absorbent for gas filters, particularly for breathing purposes, and especially for use against hydrogen sulphide and ammonia, consists of cuprous chloride placed on a solid carrier which may itself be adsorptive such as active charcoal or an activated inorganic gel. The efficiency of the filter when used against gases which are soluble in water may be increased by saturating the carrier with a solution which reacts with the gas, but preferably not with the cuprous chloride, e.g. a concentrated solution of lead nitrate.ALSO:An absorbent for gas filters for breathing purposes, especially for use against hydrogen sulphide and ammonia, consists of cuprous chloride placed on a solid carrier which may itself be adsorptive such as activated charcoal or an activated inorganic gel. The efficiency of the filter when used against gases which are soluble in water may be increased by saturating the carrier with a solution which reacts with the gas, but preferably not with the cuprous chloride, e.g. a concentrated solution of lead nitrate.
