Abstract

362,435. Safety razors. BODKIN, I. S., 656, 1st Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 3, 1930, No. 26335. Convention date, Sept. 26, 1929. [Class 30.] In a clamped-blade type safety razor having a blade 2 with a longitudinal slot 12, the guard-plate 1 is provided with means for retaining the blade at or near the longitudinal edges of the slot close to the guard plate independently of the backing plate 3, so that when the members are separated the blade can be wiped without being dislodged from the guard. The blade has openings 5, 5a to pass over undercut projections 9, 10 on the guard 1, Fig. 6, whereafter the blade is slid to the left beneath the headed projections until its notched end 15 lies beneath an undercut projection 14 on the guard and the end of its slot 12 lies beneath the undercut end 11a of a rib 11 or a Jug on the guard. The backing plate 3 carries a projection 16 engaging the opposite end blade notch 15 and prevents longitudinal sliding when in position and the backing plate is further positioned on the blade by four corner projections 17 thereon bearing against corner recesses 18, 19 in the blade. The backing plate may additionally have pins engaging the parts 19a of the blade corner recesses. The blade is symmetrical so as to be reversible. Specifications 351,944 and 351,982 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) shows also a modification wherein the blade-retaining means are associated with the backing plate instead of with the guard and includes also a statement that the blade slot 12 extends over a length substantially equal to that of the cutting edge. This subject-matter and statement do not appear in the Specification as accepted.
