Abstract
362,387. Beehives. SMITH, O., 65, Pinner Hill, Road, Pinner, Middlesex. May 29, 1930, No. 25493 /31. Divided on 362,369. [Class 5 (ii).] The walls of the sections of a beehive of the multiple superposed chamber type are hollow and are adapted to admit and to have air passed through them, when desired, to regulate the temperature of the hive. The outer part of the base portion 1 is of hollow metal and is carried on legs 2. It is provided with two stepped portions 3, 4 all round and a downwardly inclined outer portion 5 and this formation is repeated in the tops of the supers between the base portion and the roof portion, the bases of the supers being provided with the corresponding formation 3<x>, 4<x>, 5<x>. An inner bodv 6 fits within the opening of the base 1 and is fixed to a plate 7 resting on a carrier plate 8 that may be removed to allow the bottom 6 to be withdrawn. The inner surface 11 of the hollow walls of the supers may be made of thick heat insulating material such as that known under the Trade Mark " Tentest." Holes 13 controlled by slides 14 are provided in the lower part of the outer wall of the supers and holes 17 in the inclined upper surfaces, corresponding holes 19 being provided in the co-operating surfaces of the upper members and the roof. An outlet 20 controlled by a slide 21 and protected by a shield 22 is arranged in the roof. Bees enter through glass tubes 25 which may be provided with controlling slides.
