[Class 76.] In a process for tanning skins for making belts, belting, &c. the skins cut into strips of a width corresponding with the articles to be produced are subjected during the tanning process to a unidirectional tension which is progressively increased during the whole tanning process. The apparatus employed comprises pivotally supported bars 1, 2 to which the skin is secured by pins, the bar 2 being drawn away from the bar 1 by a screwed shaft 16 engaging a nut rotated through reduction gearing.
