Abstract

Processes for dyeing and printing textiles free from silk and dyestuff preparations therefor are improved by the use of one or more morpholines, free from chromophorous groups, such as morpholine or its N-methyl, N-phenyl, N-cyclohexyl, N-hydroxyethyl or 2 : 6-dimethyl derivatives, or salts thereof with inorganic or organic acids, such as hydrochloric, sulphuric, formic or acetic acids or the acids of animal or vegetable fats or oils. In examples (1) woollen piece goods are dyed evenly with a mixture of Wool fast yellow, Anthraquinone blue SR extra, and Supramine red B, in a bath containing sulphuric acid and morpholine, (2) woollen hat bodies are dyed with Naphthylamine black 10 B in an acid bath containing N-hydroxyethylmorpholine (made by treating triethanolamine with sulphuric acid), (3) cotton is printed with a paste containing Indanthrene violet R extra, N-phenylmorpholine (made by the action of aniline on dichlorethylether), potash and starch-British gum thickening, and (4) Indanthrene blue RS is mixed with N-cyclohexylmorpholine (made by splitting off water from cyclohexyldiethanolamine) or 2 : 6-dimethylmorpholine, and the mixture evaporated to dryness.
