361,960. Self-supporting resistances. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, London. - (Siemens Planiawerke Akt.-Ges. fur Kohlefabrikate ; 128, Herzbergstrasse, Lichtenberg, Berlin.) Aug. 27, 1930, No. 25574. [Class 37.] An electric heating body 1 of silicon carbide protected from direct contact by a ceramic mass is made in the form of a centrally perforated disc thickened from the periphery towards the centre so that it glows substantially uniformly all over the parts of the disc in use. Current is supplied at the periphery and the centre of the body by a spring split ring 27 and a stud 14 respectively. The ring 27 may be slotted and divided into arcuate strips such as 21, 22, &c. for the purpose of regulating the current supply and the body itself may also be correspondingly slotted so as to form segments 15, 16, &c., which may be inserted in or cut out of the circuit. In a modification, Fig. 3, the central stud 14 is dispensed with and opposite segments such as I, II, III are connected to the supply terminals in pairs.
