Abstract
361,889. Printing - machines. THOMPSON & SON, Ltd., T. C. and THOMPSON, F. S., 26, Buxton Street, London Road, Manchester. May 24, 1930, No. 15992. [Class 100 (ii).] Tripping and like arrangements ; platen machines. -In a platen printing-machine of the kind having a fixed type bed and a movable platen 7 carried by a swinging frame 6, the platen is fitted with a throwoff device which operates without altering the normal open position of the platen. The construction also permits of adjustment of the impression position of the platen, and the throw-off mechanism when operative acts to trip the platen just before it reaches the closing position, and to untrip the same just after the platen commences to open. As applied to a machine of the kind described in Specification 312,025, [Class 100 (ii), Printing processes &c.], in which the frame 6 is operated by a link 10 and bell crank 11a, the frame 6 is mounted on an eccentric bearing 8 carried by a shaft 9. A projection on the lever 11a is connected by a link 15 to a striker lever 14 freely mounted on a shaft 13 and capable of engaging a pawl 17 on a lever 16 freely mounted on the shaft 13. A cam 32 is operated by a rod 33 connected to the cam by a spring-connection, and if the impression is to be thrown off, the pawl is allowed to engage the lever 14 and the lever 16 is moved clockwise as the platen closes. A slot 16a in the end of lever 16 acts on a pivot pin 18 to move toggle levers 19, 20 out of their normal straight position shown in Fig. 1, and a connected bell crank 24 is moved clockwise around the shaft 13, and by means of a link 25 the bearings 8 are moved clockwise to throw off the impression. A spring 27 restores the toggle levers 19, 20 to normal position as the platen opens. This spring maintains the lever 19 normally against a fixed stop 29. The lever 19 is pivoted to a bell crank 21 connected to a screwoperated adjusting rod which controls the normal impression position of the platen. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1903/99, [Class 100, Printing, Letterpress &c.], and 178,080, [Class 100 (ii), Printing processes &c.].
