Abstract

Moulded articles are produced from natural or artificial latex by adding thereto substances which by mere addition have no coagulating or thickening effect, but which, on a change of physical conditions, such as a rise of temperature, produce coagulation, and subjecting the latex to that change. Suitable substances for addition are salts sparingly soluble at room temperature such as magnesium salts of organic sulphonic or carboxylic acids; soluble salts of weak bases and strong acids which hydrolyse on heating, such as quinoline sulphate and ammonium benzene sulphonate; coagulating fillers protected by an adsorbed layer of an inert substance, such as magnesium oxide coated with phenolresinosulphonic acid, or phosphoric acid; salts which on heating decompose and generate coagulating ions, such as zinc amine salts, complex nickel and cobalt amine salts; esters and ferments capable of hydrolysing the esters.
