Abstract

361,464. Loud-speakers. B R 0 W N, S. G., Western Avenue, North Acton, London. Sept. 9, 1930, No. 26959. [Class 40 (iv).] Relates to moving coil apparatus for the electrical transmission, production, or reproduction of sound, such as telephone or telegraph non-contact making relays, loud-speakers, &c., of the kind in which motion is transmitted between the moving coil and a movable member by mechanism such that the amplitude of movement of the former is greater than that of the latter. According to the invention both the moving coil and the movable member are connected with a lever which is fulcrumed by means of a strip of flexible material projecting from a relatively stationary part of the apparatus into a slot in the lever. The Figure shows a construction of moving coil loud-speaker in which the coil is carried by a spun aluminium former 4 supported in the annular gap of a permanent magnet 1 and attached to one end of a lever 7, the other end of which is slotted to receive a steel &c. strip 8 projecting from a block 9 fixed to magnet 1 by a setscrew 10. A conical diaphragm 12 is connected by a stud 11 to an intermediate point of the lever and is mounted in a frame 13 from which the magnet is supported by arms 14 attached to a ring 15 secured by screws 16 to the magnet and serving also as a mounting for insulated terminals 17. Such a construction is stated to allow of the use of a smaller permanent magnet than hitherto. Specification 29833/10, [Class 40 (iv), Telephones &c.], is referred to.
