Abstract
6-Glucose-iodhydrin is prepared by saponifying tetra - acetyl - 6 - glucose - iodhydrin. Sodium 3.5-dibrom - 4 - acetamino - 1 - benzoate is prepared by boiling p-amino-benzoic acid and the calculated quantity of bromine, both in glacial acetic acid for two hours, with stirring, to produce 3-5-dibrom-4-amino-1-benzoic acid, boiling with acetic anhydride to produce the acetyl compound, and adding the calculated quantity of sodium ethylate in alcoholic solution.ALSO:In the production of X-ray photographs of the urogenital system of an organism an X-ray contrast medium is employed comprising an aqueous solution of an easily soluble organic bromine or iodine compound substantially indifferent to the organism. The medium is administered internally, preferably by intravenous injection, the quantities employed for the human organism comprising 10-100 cc., preferably 60 cc., of water containing at least 2, and preferably 18-20 gms., of iodine in combined form; larger proportions of bromine must be employed. Suitable compounds are sodium 2-oxo-5-iodo-pyridine-N-acetate; di-iodo-chelidamic acid sodium and ammonium salts; aliphatic halogen carboxylic acids such as b -iodo-propionic acid; halogen alkyl sulphonic acids; halogen alkyl sulphuric acids; halogen substituted polyhydroxy compounds such as 6-glucose-iodhydrin, prepared by saponifying tetra-acetyl-6-glucose-iodhydrin; sodium 3,5-dibrom-4-acetamino-1-benzoate, prepared by boiling p-amino-benzoic acid and the calculated quantity of bromine, both in glacial acetic acid for two hours, with stirring, to produce 3-5-dibrom-4-amino-1-benzoic acid, boiling with acetic anhydride to produce the acetyl compound, and adding the calculated quantity of sodium ethylate in alcoholic solution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of organic halogen compounds in general. This subject-matter appears in the Specification as accepted only in the restricted form set out above.
