Abstract
Tin ores are heated say to 950-1000 DEG C. and then subjected to the action of a non-gaseous sulphidizing agent in the presence of a simultaneously or previously introduced reducing agent. The sulphidizing and reducing agents may be introduced on to the ore through a water-cooled pipe or passage so that they reach it in a non-decomposed condition, and a liquid sulphur-containing hydrocarbon may be used to serve both as sulphidizing and reducing agent. Tin sulphide formed is volatilized and may be oxidized in suspension to oxide, or be dissolved in hydrochloric acid, precipitated as hydroxide by ammonia, and the hydroxide be heated to 250-300 DEG C. to give the oxide. Specifications 215,400, 306,425, and 317,952, [all in Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], are referred to.
