[Class 87 (ii).] The partly dried body A of a pot is placed on a seating 54d1 in contact with the ends of an appendage such as a spout or handle contained in the plaster mould 54e. The sections of the mould are mounted on supports 54a, 54b slidable on fixed pistons 54h and resiliently held with respect thereto by grooves 54l engaging spring-pressed balls thereon. The supports are actuated to open and close the mould by vacuum or compressed air applied before or behind the pistons 54h through the passages 54m, 54n which register with annular passages in the spotting chuck 62 on which the frame 54d is adapted to seat. During filling, vacuum is applied to the mould through the passages 54m to assist in the extraction of water from the slip in the mould cavity and/or to dissipate air pockets, and, before emptying, the finished and fixed appendage is repelled from the walls of the mould by applying air under pressure. The mould is filled with slip through the nozzle shown in Fig. 3 from a charger device described in Specification 361,360. The nozzle comprises a central tube 99e supplied with slip from the inlet 95e3 via a non-return valve while the excess material is withdrawn through the concentric tube 99c by suction at the outlet 95g2. The nozzle is located on the mould seating 54d1 by a, base 99d in which the outer tube 99c is threaded to be vertically adjustable so that the mould may be filled to any predetermined level.
