Abstract

360,458. Hydraulic steering-gear. ETABLISSEMENTS P. DUCLOS, Boulevard Sardou, Le Canet, Marseilles, France. Aug. 1, 1930, No. 23230. Convention date, June 26. [Class 114.] In an installation comprising two or more independently-driven pumps, valves are provided which automatically isolate .the inoperative pumps from the hydraulic circuit. In a steering gear, in which the tiller 19 is operated by a ram 21 moving in cylinders 22, 23 supplied by electrically-driven pumps 24, 25, the suction and discharge pipes 11, 12 of the pump 24 lead to a casing 2, in which cross-passages controlled by valves 3, 4 make communication with pipes 15, 16 leading to the ram cylinders. The suction and discharge pipes 13, 14 of the pump 25 are similarly controlled by valves 5, 6 in a casing 1. If the pump 24 is operated the valve 4 or 3 in the suction circuit is held open by the discharge pressure acting under a plunger 8 or 7. At the same time the pump 25 is isolated from the discharge pressure of the pump 24 by the valve 5, or the valve 6. The action is similar if the pump 25 is operative and the pump 24 is inoperative. The pumps may be operated simultaneously.
