[Class 108 (i).] In scavengers' vehicles of the kind provided with several lids on each side each lid has, at each side of its inner end, two rollers co-operating with and working in slots in fixed plates, the slots being so formed that when raised the lid is maintained in open position until released. Each lid a is provided with two rollers c<1>, d<1> at each side adapted to work in a slot e having inclined portions e<1>, e2 and horizontal portions e<3>, e<4>, the latter portions serving to keep the lid elevated until the rollers are moved into the inclined portions of the slot. The lid is operated from two pedals through the cables h<1>, h<2> and a dashpot j may be provided to allow the lid to close gently. If desired one pedal may be employed to raise the lid and also to release it from elevated position when desired. Depression of the pedal causes the member m to be pulled down and through slot m<1>, pin k<1> and cable h<1> to raise the lid which causes member v to move to the position shown in Fig. 4. Release of the pedal allows the member m to rise through the spring u and the next depression of the pedal pulls down member p through ratchet and pawl p<1>, o, the slot p2,and pin r causing the member to swing to release the lid by drawing the rollers c<1>, d<1> out of the horizontal portion of the slot e.
