Abstract

360,099. Control of D.C. motors. STEVENS, W. A., Castlemaine, London Road, Maidstone, Kent, and GUY MOTORS, Ltd., Fallings Park, Wolverhampton. Aug. 30, 1930, Nos. 25916/30, 30445/30, 766/31, and 6293/31. [Class 38 (iii).] Regenerative braking.-During regeneration, the series field-winding of a compound traction-motor is reversed. Reversal of the winding 2 may be effected by a bridge arrangement of four rectifiers 17, and only part of the winding is used during regeneration. These four rectifiers may be replaced by a pair of double-pole contactors. Complete circuits are disclosed in Figs 3. and 4 (not shown) and include a brake controller for rheostatic braking with means for varying a shunt across the series field and a safety device to weaken the series field upon excessive braking. According to the first Provisional Specification, an oppositelywound series field may be substituted for the field 2 during regeneration. Specifications 278,073, 330,269, 338,259, [all in Class 38 (iii), Electric motor control systems &c.], 340,003, 340,405, and 341,679 are referred to.
