[Class 96.] A removable doctor blade pressed against the roll by resilient means, and supported to allow bending throughout its width to conform to movements of or irregularities in the roll is engaged with its support by enlargements &c. in its thickness, which are received in an undercut slot, and are releasable only by endwise movement, and are cf small endwise extension so as not substantially to diminish the longitudinal flexibility of the blade. The resilient means may comprise a spring plate or strip 17, Fig. 6, enlarged along its rear edge which is received in an undercut slot 16 in the blade support 15. The blade 1, Fig. 1, has projections 3 :n the undercut slots 4 of strips 5 on a spring plate or on a series of spring supports 2, the slot 4 preferably having a ledge 6 for the rear edge of the blade. The strips 5 may have an extended part between the slots 4 and their connections to the spring supports 2 which are attached to the doctor carrier, and at the edge of each support 2 there may be studs overlapping the next support and preventing excessive relative displacement. The mouth 10 of the slot 4 limits the deflection of the bade 1 and is preferably flared at its ends to allow the blade readily to be inserted endwise, and the projections &c. 3 may comprise pairs of oppositely facing rivets too large to pass the mouth 10. The slot 4 may be shaped as shown in Fig. 6, the deflection of the blade 1 being limited by a groove 23, and the plate 17 may be substituted by a strip of rubber. The slotted supports or the rubber strip may be made by extrusion. The Provisional Specification states the projections &c. may be copper rivets.
