[Class 83 (i).] Moulds; electricity, heating by.-In forming a metal roller a preformed shell 8 is placed in a mould and heated by electrical induction before pouring in the molten metal. A shell 8 of high-carbon cupola-iron is placed in a mould-section 2, made of chamotte or asbestos-cement, arranged between upper or lower sections 1, 3 which are lined with moulding-sand. The shell is heated to sweating temperature by an.induction coil 5 on or in the section 2 and then cast-iron, steel, or other metal is poured through a runner 7 which enters the mould tangentially. The current, which is switched off during pouring, is again switched on to heat the metal until bubbles have risen and dross has formed on the top. Moulding-sand may be inserted between the section 2 and the shell 8.
