[Class 132 (ii).] In an open-throated tennis or like racket, some of the longitudinal strings pass through the bridgepiece and engage eyes, spaced longitudinally in a member movably located within and adjustable longitudinally of the handle by means of a screw - threaded member extending through the handle. The longitudinal reaches 8 of the string 21 pass through the bottom of the frame 1 or through a bridge-piece 26 and thence through longitudinally disposed eyes 15 in a rod 9, in the handle 5, the outer strings passing by way of apertures 6a in the throat 6. The tension on these strings is adjusted by rotation of a cap 12 pinned at 13 to a sleeve 11 which is screwed on to the lower end of the rod 9, which is frictionally prevented from rotating. Two methods of threading the longitudinal reach string through the eyes 15 are described. There may be four of these strings each allocated to an eye 15, or the single string 21 may have all of its reaches passing through a single eye. The eyes may be replaced by hooks.
