Abstract

358,663. Lubricating bearings. GODDARD, J. H., Three Leys, Knighton Road, and PRIESTNALL, A., Branksome, Lutterworth Road, Aylestone, both in Leicester. Aug. 27, 1930, No. 25512. [Class 12 (iii).] An antifriction bearing 2 for the high-speed vertical tool spindle 1 of a wood-moulding machine is lubricated bv oil thrown off in the form of spray from a collar 1b on the spindle above the bearing, the oil being supplied to the collar by wicks 7 depending into a reservoir beneath the bearing. The latter is mounted in a cup 4 secured in a housing 3 and forming the oil reservoir, which is connected by a pipe 6 to a gauge glass 5. The wicks are oppositely disposed and pass through vertical passages 4a in the cup 4 and then extend horizontally across the cup, one on each side of the spindle, the horizontally-disposed parts being held in position against or closely adjacent to the upper surface of the collar 1b by screws 8. A collar 10 beneath the bearing deflects surplus oil into the reservoir.
