358,656. Electric furnaces. BRITISH HARTFORD - FAIRMONT SYNDICATE, Ltd., 143, Audrey House, Ely Place, London.-(Assignees of Cornelius, C. E.; Skarpoborg, Stockholm.) Aug. 19, 1930, No. 24830. Convention date, July 3. [Class 39 (iii).] In a three-phase furnace for smelting glass, waterglass, cement or other substances each phase is provided with two electrodes or sets of electrodes, one electrode or set of electrodes of one phase being disposed opposite to one of those of the next phase, with their opposed surfaces substantially parallel. In the example the three phases are respectively connected to the pairs of electrodes AA', BB<1>, CC<1>, the smelting spaces between the electrodes being formed by recesses preferably located at an angle of 120‹ to each other.
