358,398. Percussive tools. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO., 6, East 44th Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Stevens, E. W. ; 6201, 2nd Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Feb. 16, 1931, No. 4858. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1930. [Class 124.] In the percussive hammer shown in Fig. 1, the end of the cylinder 6 has elliptical projections 6a with opposed arcuate seats 10, 11 which are alternately engaged by a ring valve 8 sliding between the handle of the tool and a shoulder 6b on the cylinder. The seat 10 has ports 12 connected by passages 12a to the front end of the cylinder. The seat 13 has ports connected by passages to the rear end of the cylinder. The fluid-pressure inlet 9d opens into the valve chamber 14 which communicate by passages 15a with ports in the seats 10, 11. The cylinder exhaust ports 16 are controlled by the piston. The valve is moved transversely to engage one or the other of the seats 10, 11 upon one of the ports 16 being opened. In a modification, a separate valve block is arranged at the end of the cylinder. A locking-sleeve 91 backed by a tensioned spring ring 92 may engage the head 9 to prevent it from working loose from the cylinder 6. A sheet-metal clip 93 forms a cover, and acts as an exhaust deflector.
