358,083. Supply systems ; dynamoelectric machines. STEVENS, S. A. and WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London. June 28, 1930, No. 19683. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv).] Regulation, automatic; reactive characteristics and electric circuits, modifying; protective or safety devices, auxiliary to dynamoelectric machines.-Current variations in reactive electric circuits, such as occur when an e.m.f. is intermittently impressed thereon or when subject to a pulsating or alternating e.m.f., are modified by a unidirectional current carrying device, preferably of the dry metal compressed type, connected directly in parallel with the reactive portion of the circuit, or by using a transformer, in series or in parallel with the circuit. The Figure shows the application of such devices 5 to the yield circuit 1 of a generator which is being regulated by an electromagnetic device intermittently short-circuiting a resistance 3. A similar method may be used with the field of a motor in controlling its speed, or, with a relay, to render its response rate different when its energized circuit is closed from that when it is opened.
