Abstract

The processes for coating, dressing, sizing, printing, &c yarns and fabrics of Specifications 302,115 and 320,062, [both in Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c], are modified by adding to the viscose, or the solution of cellulose xanthofatty acid or other cellulose compound containing a CSS - group, a product obtained according to the process of Specification 25246/11, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], particularly 2-oxytrimethylene-1 : 3-sulphide. After the application of the solution, the materials are treated so as to cause an evolution of gas in the coating &c., or with an agent adapted to cause them to shrink. In examples, cotton fabrics are coated or impregnated with viscose solutions prepared with or without ripening of the alkali cellulose and with or without ripening of the viscose, to which have been added 2-oxytrimethylene-1 : 3-sulphide, and in some cases sodium carbonate, and the treated fabrics with or without steaming are treated with sulphuric acid of 10-20 per cent strength, or with 20-30 per cent sodium bisulphate solution, or with sulphuric acid of 45-55 DEG B<\>ae, or with any bath used for precipitating viscose, p and are afterwards washed, desulphurized or bleached if desired, and then dried; if it is desired to shrink the coated or impregnated material, the latter is treated with 7-22,5 per cent caustic soda solution; in some cases an addition of talcum may be made to the viscose solution.
