357,507. Galvanic batteries. POLLOCK, S. A., Little Bush House, Kingsbury, London. March 18, 1930, No. 8727. [Class 53.] Gas exits; connections to lead electrodes; cases; cells.-A storage battery -comprises two or more cells each of which has two vents joined to adjacent cells by a disconnectable pipe the ends of which are formed as parts of glands which engage corresponding gland parts on the cell vents. Tightening means are provided to prevent leakage. Fig. 9 shows a pipe 61 for connecting the vents of two cells. The pipe terminals in bosses or glands 60 which engage tubular projections 23 leading from the interior of the cells as shown in Fig. 1. A washer 62 is disposed in a recess in the cover 50 and can be compressed by means of nuts 64 which bear on a bridge 63 passing over the terminal posts 19 and bearing on the bosses 60. The pipe 61 may be made of insulating material or of lead in which case it acts as an auxiliary conductor connecting the cells. A battery of cells may be filled with electrolyte through the free vent at one end. The plates of each cell are formed with tags 15 between which are placed lead strips 16 to which.they are fused. Each set of plates is fused to a bus-bar 18 made of lead which encloses a bronze strap 20 carrying terminal posts 19 and the tubular projection 23 as shown in Fig. 6. The casing of each cell is made of lead and is enclosed in an outer steel container, a space being left between the two which is filled with an insulating packing such as sheets of impregnated cardboard. The inner lead casing is closed by a lead cover fused into position, the outer container being provided with two wooden closures 46, 50. Specifications 357,504, 357,505, and 357,506 are referred to.
