[Class 37.] C o i n action, weight ; coin-slit closing-d e v i c e s. -A coin - freed apparatus for dispensing petrol and other liquids comprises a cabinet 1, Fig. 1, containing a tank 2 from which liquid is forced by a pump 3 to a measuring vessel 4 provided with an overflow pipe 23 and a valve 10 through which the vessel 4 is emptied by a pipe 7 and hose 70. When a supply is desired, the purchaser by a handle 19 moves a slide 17 having a slot 22 which is brought into register with a coin insertion slot 21. This movement of the slide closes the valve 10 which is locked in its closed position by the arm 36 of a lever 35, 36 engaging over a lug 37 on the valve rod 11, a slotted connection 110 being provided between the valve 10 and rod 11 to allow the lug 37 to pass under the arm 36. A coin is now inserted and passes down a shoot 20 to tilt a pawl 40, 41 out of engagement with a toothed sector 39 on a shaft 8 which is provided with a handle 9 for actuating the pump 3. A bevelled end 47 of the pawl escapes over and rests on a bevelled weighted end 48 of a lever 42, 43 which, through a lever 44, 45 and a link 38, holds a balance lever 24, 25 up against a stop 52. An overflow receiving bucket 26 having a small discharge opening 27 is suspended from the arm 24 by a rod 30 and is disposed in an open vessel 28 communicating with the tank 2 by a pipe 29. The purchaser operates the pump 3 until the surplus liquid flows from the vessel 4 to the bucket 26 which is thereby depressed so that stops 31, 32 on the rod 30 tilt a lever 33, 34, the arm 34 tilting the lever 35, 36 and moving the arm 36 out of the path of the lug 37 on the valve.rod 11. The depression of the bucket also tilts the lever 42, 43 allowing the pawl 41 to engage the sector 39 and prevent further operation of the pump. By actuating the handle 19 the valve 10 is opened to discharge the liquid, but the coin slot 21 is closed and prevents the insertion of a coin while the vessel 4 is emptying. Indicators.-A float 60 indicates by a pointer 54 working over a scale 55 the level of liquid in the tank 2. Tokens of special form.-Instead of coins, tokens ribbed as shown in Fig. 7 may be employed, the coin-slit being correspondingly shaped. The tokens would be purchased at a price corresponding to the price of the liquid.
