To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERICK WALDEMAR LIND- GREN, en ineer, a subject of the King of Sweden and orway, residing at Hagalund, near Stockholm, Sweden, (whose post office. ad dress is Jarfvagatan 6, Hagalund,'near Stockholm, Sweden,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coin-Controlled Liquid-Vending Apparatus; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in coin-controlled li uid-vending apparatus and will be fully descrlbed and pomted out in the following specification, claims, and drawings.
- In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, with parts in section, of a vending apparatus embodying the main features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a'plan view of the parts shown in Fig. 1.

I The general object of my invention is to provide a vending apparatus in which the use of springs is entirely avoided, the operative parts thereof being actuated entirely by gravit A further object of the invention is to provide efiicient .means for quickly and efiect- .ively opening and closing the valves which control the passage of the vended fluid and also means for regulating the amount of fluid to be sold and the denomination of coins to be used.
The device of my invention consists generally of a coin mechanism operating in connection with a weighted measuring-cup actuated by a weight which upon the insertion of a coin of the proper denomination serves to raise the measurlng-cu adjacent a valved filling-pipe, actuating t e valve therein and permitting thecup to descend to an emptymg position when the same has recelved a prescribed quantit of the 11 1nd. When the measuring-cup as reached t e emptying position, the contents thereof is automatically drained, and the same is adapted to be locked and to remain in the emptying position until another coin is inserted.
My invention consists more particularly in a measuring-cup 3, mounted upon a welghted lever 1, having bifurcated arms 2, to which the cup 3 is directly attached. Said lever 1 is also provided with a weight-rod 4, extending in an opposite direction to the. arms 2 and carrying on its outer end a weight 5, adjustabl secured by means of a screw 5. The sai weight is adjusted upon the rodin a manner to normally hold the 'cup in a filling or elevated position, as indicated in Fig. 1 in dotted lines, the said cup overbalancing the Wei ht upon the admission thereto of a prescri ed quantit of the liquid. The lower end of said measuring-cup 3 is rovided with an automatic valve provide with a winged closure 15, adapted to be opened by engagement with a lug formed in an outlet-pipe 16. i
The filling mechanism consists of a fillingpipe 12, pro ecting within the measuring-cu {3 at one end and terminating at the other en in a valve-casing 12. The valve-casing communicates with a source of supply through the medium of a supply-pipe 10, said casing being providedwith a central dia a mhavmg a valve-seat which is opene and closed by a closure 11, provided with a projecting stem 13. Said stem 13 rojects downwardly from the casing throng a packing-box or gland and registers with a stem-actuating 1ev er or lift 14 pivoted at one end upon a statlonary part of the device and normally engagmg at its other end a rejecting stud 22. Provision is made where y upward movement of the measuring-cup 3 and valve-stem 13 is arrested at a prescribed point, which means consists, as shown, of a projecting rest-arm 23, en aged b the weight 5, as shown in dotted ines in Fig. 1.

Assuming that the proper coin has been deposited, the disengagement of the detent 7 with the rod 8 will permit the weight 5 to travel downwardly,
carrying the cup 3 into the elevated position shown in dotted lines. During the upward movement of the cup the lug 21 engages the outer or weighted end of the chin-flap 18, serving to release the coin from the pocket 9,
whereupon it may be received in any suitable coin-receiver. One of the arms 2 in its upward movement by means of lug 22 raises the stem lift 1,4, thereby opening the valveclosure 11 and permitting the fluid to flow downwardly -from the supply-pipe 10throu h the casing 12 and filling-pipe 12 into t e measuring-cup 3. When the prescribed quantity oi fluid has been deposited into the measuring-cup, or, in other words, when the measuring-cup overbalances the Weight 5, it will be in to descend accompanied by the valvec osure 11, which is permitted to close lines in Fig. 1, the valve 11 will have been closed and the stem of the wing-valve 15, engaging the lug formed in the outlet-pi e 16, will have opened the lower end of t e cup 3, permitting the liquid to flow outwardly and be delivered to the purchaser. When the cup 3 has descended to a lowermost or emptyiniposition, the detent-rod 8 .will be engaged y the, detent 7, the coinflap 18 wil automatically close the pocket 9, thereby placing the parts in a position to be operated upon'the insertion of a coin by the next purchaser. v
The operation and general construction of the device of my invention is very simple and the operative parts are wholly composed of gravity-acting mechanical elements, thus insurin both accuracy and durability. A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising a structure, a measuring-cup, a cupsupporting lever pivotally secured thereto at with an adjustably-mounted weight, a stop direction, a lug mounted on the weighted end of said lever, a coin-controlled lever provided with a projecting pawl adapted to engage said lug, a weight normally holding said coin-lever in a position to on age the awl with the lug, the opposite en of said ever having a coin-receiving pocket adapted to receive coins of a prescribed denomination, the weight of said coins servin to disengage said pawl and lug, a weighte pocket-lever pivotally mounted to said coin lever and servingnormally to hold the coin in said pocket, said pocket-lever releasing the coin from said pocket when the pawl and lug are disengaged, a filling-pipe for said cup, a valve in said pipe having a downwardly-projecting stem, apivotally-mounted valve-lever adapted to engage said stem and located in operative relation to said cup-sup orting lever, a self-closing valve secured in t e lower end of said measuring-cup having a stem projecting below the same, and a receiving or drain ing p'pe provided with a lug adapted to enga e said valve-stem.
