Abstract

680,124. Coin-freed machines for delivering measured quantities of liquid. BULL & CO., Ltd., R. H. Sept. 8, 1950 [Sept. 9, 1949], No. 23358/49. Class 27 [Also in Group XXV] Dispensing liquids by volume. The construction illustrated employs the liquid dispensing device (generally indicated at 3) of Specification 455,347. In Figs. 1 and 2, one such measure dispenses liquid from either or both of two bottles 4 according to the setting of cocks 6. Operation of the measure is prevented, unless a coin has been inserted, by a normally locked lever 56 formed with a lug 64 which bears on the upper end of the stem 35 of the air valve of the measure. Coin action, thrust; coin discharging mechanism. A shilling or florin inserted in, a corresponding slot falls to a position in which it couples a pin on a bellcrank 79 or 104 (see also Fig. 2a) to a pin on a corresponding push-button slide 86 or 113 so that the bell-crank is rocked about its pivot 80 or 105 when the push-button is depressed. The push-button is returned by a spring (not shown) and carries the bellcrank with it when the edge of a slot 85 or 112 in the slide 86 or 113 engages a pin 83 or 110: the initial lost motion, ensured by a friction washer 81 or 106 on the bell-crank, permits the coin to fall to a change shoot 47 or to a coin box 52. Oscillation of either of the bell-cranks 79, 104 raises a link 75 which, by a pin and slot connection 73, 74, turns a latch 63, Fig. 2a, about its pivot 60; this withdraws a step 65 in the latch from locking engagement with the lug 64 on the lever 56, which normally blocks the movement of the air valve stem 35. The latch 63 is held in this release position by a sear 66 which is turned about its pivot 67 by a spring 72, joining the sear 66 and the latch 63 so that a lug 70 on the former engages a step 71 on the latter. When the measure 3 is subsequently operated the air-valve stem 35 raises the lever 56 about its pivot 57 to disengage the sear 66 and permit the spring 72 to restore the latch 63. When the stem 35 is lowered again a spring 58 biasing the lever 56 forces the lug 64 back to its locked position beneath the step 65; the movement of the latch 63 necessary to permit this is too small to re-engage the sear 66. Change-giving apparatus. Coin - slit closing devices. Shillings used to free the apparatus pass to a change shoot 47 unless it is full and one is released and passes to a receptacle 53 as change each time a florin is inserted and the push-button slide 113 operated to rack the bell crank 104. The release is effected by an escapement comprising projections 120, 126 on the bell-crank and on a lever 121 pivoted 'at 122 and carrying a pin 123 held against a step 124 on the bell-crank by a spring 125. Exhaustion of the change in the shoot 47 releases a rocking lever (not shown) near the lower end of the shoot so that a spring-loaded closure member may obstruct the slot for inserting florins. Casings. Money boxes or receivers. Preventing removal of coins by shaking and tilting. Clamps securing the bottles in place may be adjusted only from inside the casing and are reached by removing a locked plate 129, Fig. 2. The clamps shown at 9 in Fig. 1 are described in Group XXV. To prevent coins in the change shoot 47 being dislodged if the apparatus is turned upside-down, a bent portion 101, Figs. 2'and 5, of a spring 100 projects through the wall 42 of the shoot and is shaped as indicated at 102, 103 to permit coins to pass in one direction only.
