Abstract

356,736. Screw propellers. MACMECHEN, T. R., Sherman Hotel, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. May 5,1930, No. 13809. [Class 114.] Screw propellers are constructed with angularly disposed, relatively overlapping and spaced interconnected blades offset from the hub, each blade being tangentially directed in the plane of rotation and having its medial portion connected in spaced relation to the hub. Arms 15 on the hub 14 are attached to the blades 16 at their central portions 18 which are bent out of the main plane of the blade. The tips 20 are interconnected by fins 21 which lie in a circumferential path. The fins 21 may be replaced by adjustable connectors. In a modification, the two parts of each blade are relatively angularly disposed so that each portion is practically parallel with the adjacent blade section with which it overlaps.
